Help for FBI: BKA investigators fight against online predators

German investigators have established two online criminal gangs about trade. In the raid, they searched offices and data centers and multiple computer ensured. Eleven states participated in the action that was planned by the FBI.

The fight against cyber-criminals continue: After the raid against kino.to earlier this month it was now some operators of malicious software to the collar. Investigators from the Federal Criminal Office (BKA) searched in an internationally coordinated action several companies building and two residential properties in the Rhine-Main area. Also various data centers in Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony were examined by the investigators. Was triggered by a legal assistance request from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is currently under investigation for massive spread of malicious software over the Internet.
According to the BKA, some servers were to spread malicious software in Germany. The perpetrators used the programs to appear on the computers of Internet users false alarms due to an alleged virus attack and then sell them a license for an alleged security software. This cost 28-56 €. But the software is not only ineffective, but infects the computer with additional malware. Experts refer to such software as "Scareware" because it is designed to confuse the user.
Use in eleven states

To disseminate the programs, the group used as specified by the BKA a so-called botnet. In such a close network of computer criminals to unsuspecting Internet users, mostly using remote control software secretly installed on a computer network together. A main server acts as a command station and can use the infected computer for further criminal activities. The German servers have been used by the group also for the processing of fraudulent payment transactions, said the BKA. Involved in the action is therefore eleven states. However, substantial evidence in the form of hard drives and data were recovered.

In cooperation with the Ukrainian secret service succeeded German investigators, another blow to a gang of online criminals. They should have captured using a computer worm around 50 million €. The attacker would have the Conficker taken control of other computers and accounts looted from banks of different countries, said the Ukrainian secret service. With the money to the criminals bought several luxury goods and real estate. The Conficker spread mainly in 2009 and captured millions of computers.
